Seasonal Variability in Ocean Heat Content and Heat Flux in the Arabian Gulf

چکیده

This study aimed to evaluate the seasonal variability in surface heat content Arabian Gulf (AG) based on hydrographic data. The ocean (OHC) was initially estimated from maximum depth (75 m) show variability, where temperature reaches that depth. Then OHC re-estimated a of 35 m, which represents average AG, obtain accurate horizontal distributions. Results showed during winter, northern part AG experiences lowest compared southeastern part. monthly spatial implies highest water September and October, while found February March. However, distributions were almost same for entire gulf summer. In general, there increasing southeast region gulf. anomalies are concentrated near Strait Hormuz has values. Regarding flux, gains spring, loss autumn. exchange between Indian Ocean through may play major role OHC.

Seasonal variability of upper ocean heat content in Drake Passage

[1] Mixed-layer depth (MLD) is often used in a mixed-layer heat budget to relate air-sea exchange to changes in the near-surface ocean temperature. In this study, reanalysis heat flux products and profiles from a 15 year time series of high-resolution, near-repeat expendable bathythermograph/expendable conductivity-temperature-depth (XBT/XCTD) sampling in Drake Passage are used to examine the n...

Surface flux and ocean heat transport convergence contributions to seasonal and interannual variations of ocean heat content

We present an observation-based heat budget analysis for seasonal and interannual variations of ocean heat content (H) in the mixed layer (Hmld) and full-depth ocean (Htot). Surface heat flux and ocean heat content estimates are combined using a novel Kalman smoother-based method. Regional contributions from ocean heat transport convergences are inferred as a residual and the dominant drivers o...

Simulated and observed variability in ocean temperature and heat content.

Observations show both a pronounced increase in ocean heat content (OHC) over the second half of the 20th century and substantial OHC variability on interannual-to-decadal time scales. Although climate models are able to simulate overall changes in OHC, they are generally thought to underestimate the amplitude of OHC variability. Using simulations of 20th century climate performed with 13 numer...

Global upper ocean heat content and climate variability

Observational data from the Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Program were used to calculate the upper ocean heat content (OHC) anomaly. The thickness of the upper layer is taken as 300 m for the Pacific/Atlantic Ocean and 150 m for the Indian Ocean since the Indian Ocean has shallower thermoclines. First, the optimal spectral decomposition scheme was used to build up monthly synoptic tem...

Heat content variability in the North Atlantic Ocean in ocean reanalyses.

Warming of the North Atlantic Ocean from the 1950s to 2012 is analyzed on neutral density surfaces and vertical levels in the upper 2000 m. Three reanalyses and two observational data sets are compared. The net gain of 5 × 1022 J in the upper 2000 m is roughly 30% of the global ocean warming over this period. Upper ocean heat content (OHC) is dominated in most regions by heat transport converge...
